This is the only authentic part of the original church. It has a spacious gothic style vault, composed of pointing arches, which bare a series of converging nerves, uniting in the centre as in a spider’s web. The colors are a little darker than in the rest of the church, this due to modifications made after the 1868 earthquake.
The choir is 14 meters long and 10 meters wide and a simple window allows it to be illuminated. The choir is adorned with wooden cedar benches, 18 chairs in the lower row and 34 chairs in the upper row.
Near the chairs is a decorated wall with a series of high cervings showing the Augustine order. A column separates each cerving and in the centre stands a golden Saint Augustine, dressed in a bishop’s robe and holding a church in has hand stands in the center.
A majestic organ is placed in the middle of the choir. It is considered one of the best in Quito and was brought from Germany and donated by Mrs. Maria Luis Gangotena on February 21, 1927.
The organ has a modern Doric order structure with all the comforts an interpreter needs and it works when the air runs through it.
